Water is the most important substance on earth. Approximately 71% of the earth’s surface is covered by water, and about 75% of our bodies are made up of water. Suffice it to say, we need water and a lot of it! The problem many of us have, including those around the world, is that not all water is created equally. The oceans are filled with lots of salt, making it dangerous to consume, and a lot of water is dirty and full of bacteria and organisms. Having a water system full of clean water is a real blessing for those that have it.
As time passes, particles in a sand filter will smooth out due to wear and tear of water flow. When this happens, filtration efficiency of sand pool filters will decrease. It is then recommended that you change the sand in your filter. There are varying opinions on how often this should be done. On the average, it takes about five years for sand pool filters to require changing. You may have heard of sand filters going more than 20 years without changing sand. This may still work depending on usage and maintenance but the efficiency is no longer the same as it was several years ago. It will take more cycles to clean up pool water cartridge filter if your sand pool filter is more than 20 years old.
If the swimming pool is outdoors and the winters are harsh, it is a good idea to put antifreeze in the key areas after draining the water and putting a cover over the pool.
Remove & store accessories. Store your vacuuming equipment, pole, skimmer net, brush, inflatables and pool toys in a dry place for the winter. Remove your ladder and store in a dry place out of the elements. Store any unused chemicals, with their tops tightly closed, in a cool, dry place as well.
Take off the cover and sop up as much of the remaining water as possible using a shop vac, sponge, towel, clean mop or all of the above. Make sure you get the water out of the recessed areas like the footwell. Also remove the water cartridge filter from the canister compartment and eliminate all water from it. You may also want to leave a sponge or towel in the recessed areas to sop up any remaining water that may continue to leak in.
