Clothing. Clean out your closets and drawers of all clothing that is either too small or too large to fit you. Also, get out any clothing that you have not worn for a long time. Donate those clothes to a charity or church that will reuse the clothes or sell them to raise funds.
Kill vampire voltage. Too many people don’t know (or are just too lazy to change their habits!) that keeping your devices plugged in when you’re not using them still uses electricity. Unplug your devices when you are not using them. You probably notice that when you touch the charger it is still warm even if it hasn’t been charging anything; that means that there was still an electrical current moving through. If you use a power strip, just unplug the power strip!
This is an old one. It doesn’t take long to put a box next to the garbage for cans. While your at it put a box there for paper, too. My family used to create three whole bags of garbage a week. Now we barely fill one since we have added the paper and can containers next to the trash. You were going to get up to throw your can in the garbage anyway so it takes no extra time to place it in a box next to it. It doesn’t end at home. If the place you work doesn’t have a computer recycling in place suggest that they look into one.
It’s true. No matter what kind of condition your phones are in, you can sell your cell phones for cash. Even if they don’t work, there are websites that will take your old, worn out, or just plain broken phones, and send you money in return. You don’t need to have any prior experience with selling, marketing, or electronics- absolutely every aspect of selling used cell phones is taken over for you, so you don’t have a thing to do. You don’t even need to have experience using one of these websites, either. All of them are set up so that you, regardless of your level of computer expertise, can use them to sell your cell phones for cash.
Donate it. If your used Dell printer is still in good condition, donate it to a school, charity, or other public agency. Doing so will not only help the environment but will also help people in your city. Remember to check with Dell, as they often collaborate with companies that distribute used Dell printers to places needing them the most.
Drop it off at a garage sale. Garage sales will often take a computer monitor off of your hands. Offer to let the owners of the garage sale sell the monitor at whatever price they’d like for free. Most people aren’t going to have a problem with that. Alternately, you could hold your own garage sale, though that’s a far larger task.
So it’s simple to start reducing the carbon output, and not really that expensive. In fact many of these will actually help you save money at the same time, and with the way the economy is right now, who doesn’t want to save money? Start today. Remember the natural carbon level for our planet is lower than 300 and we are currently on a quick run to breaking 400 in the next few years. But we can stop it, if we are willing to start with simple solutions and work up from there.
